Lots of Great Action Here in Pennsylvania

by Tim McManus

Well it took six months but we finally made it to Pennsylvania this year! Normally this event is held in March but in this crazy year, the ‘not so’ Winter Wars had to be held much later. In such a trying year for all of us, it feels so good to see so many familiar faces (or at least half their face) in Feasterville. 85 teams are participating this weekend and playing games at the Sportsplex and Marple Sports Arena. Teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Virginia, and California are participating.

A big shout out goes to some of our larger organizations that brought teams in nearly every age group this year; the Mission Black Ice, DSC Labeda Devils, Tour Assault, Inferno and Long Island 495ers. I know we have mentioned it many times on our podcast, the guys running these organizations need to be commended for all the hard work they bring to the sport. Guys like Jason Muro, Scott Ives, John Granucci, Justin Favaloro, Tyler Davis, and Dino Virone just to name some. There are so many great people that do a lot behind the scenes as well so THANK YOU as well.

I would be remiss if not mentioning what an important day yesterday (9/11) is to all of us, especially for me as a New Yorker.  It is crazy that it has been 19 years and it is a day that all of us will always remember.  Our thoughts as always ar with all of those who were lost on this tragic day!

This weekend we have games being played in all age groups from 8u through Pro. Here is a quick recap so far!

10u

The Long Island 495ers lead the pack going 2-0 today and not giving up a goal yet! Colin Hite leads the team with 4 points. And in net Tyler Sapoff has both shutouts!

All other teams (Black Ice, Outlaws and Devils) have all at least tied one game today, making for a well rounded out division heading into Sun action.

12u

Mission Black Ice seems to have their strongest team in this division so far, going 2-0 today. Both 495ers teams are 1-0 as of now. Black Ice’s Dom Feiler (9 pts) and Jake Strong (8 pts) lead the way. Nigel Smith looking strong in net as always but Michael Vevante (495ers blue) leads the pack with a .733 save % so far.

14u AA

After one set of games both Inferno and Alkali Revel are 1-0. Max Sokol (Inferno) with an impressive 4 point first game and James Hedquist did the same for Alkali Revel.

14u A

Both Mission Black Ice and DSC Labeda Devils are 3-0 after round robin play and Tour Assault finished 2-1. This sets up an Assault vs Devils semi final on Sunday, winner plays Black Ice for the ‘ship.

16u AA

Pura didn’t come all the way form California just to be here, so there 2-0 record is no shock as they lead the pack. Inferno finishes 1-1-1 as they wait for the rest of the division to sort out

18u

After one set of games, Inferno, ISCA Grizzlies and Tour Assault are all 1-0.

Junior

Mission Black Ice (PA style) finishes 2-0-1 and the Tour Road Runners (probably the favorite in the group) sits at 2-0 waiting to play their third game. No shock that Max Halvorsen (6 pts) leads the division in scoring for the Road Runners.

Pro

After two games the Tour Road Runners sit atop the division 2-0. Mission Black Ice is in danger of not making the playoffs with a 0-1-1 record. Rink Rat Liberty, Rink Rat and Inferno all have a win, while Inferno edges them with a tie as well. The next set of games will be very interesting as teams play to make the playoffs! Halvorsen leads this div as well with 6 pts and Tyler Davis has 5 points for Inferno. Rob Kowalczyk leads the division with a .913 save % and is key to the Road Runners undefeated record.

More results to come! Good luck!
